Roddy Maude-Roxby is an English actor. He was born on April 2, 1930. He has appeared in many movies and TV shows. You might know his voice from the Disney movie The Aristocats. In that film, he voiced the character Edgar Balthazar, the butler. This was his only voice role in a movie.

Early Life and Art

Roddy Maude-Roxby was a creative person from a young age. He studied at the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. He was one of the first performance artists in the UK. This was before performance art was a well-known art form.

At the RCA, he worked on the college's magazine, ARK, in 1958. He also led the college's Theatre Group. In 1960, he had an art show with another artist named Peter Blake.

TV and Stage Work

Roddy Maude-Roxby worked on a TV show called The Complete and Utter History of Britain. He worked with Michael Palin and Terry Jones on this show. They later became famous for Monty Python.

He also appeared in many other TV shows. These include The Goodies and Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. In 1968, he won an award for being the Best Comic in New York. This was for his work as a stand-up comedian.

Working with Masks and Improv

For over 40 years, Roddy Maude-Roxby has worked with masks and improvisation. Improvisation is when actors make up scenes as they go. He helped create special games for improv acting. These games were first developed at the Royal Court Theatre. Later, they were used with a group called "Theatre Machine."

In 1992, Roddy Maude-Roxby starred in a children's TV show. It was called Parallel 9 and aired on BBC1. He played an alien character named Mercator. In 2012, he acted in a play called St John’s Night in London.
