General Rodolph John Leslie Hibernicus De Salis (born May 9, 1811 – died March 13, 1880) was a brave soldier. He fought in many big battles during the 1800s. He earned several important awards for his service, including the Order of the Bath (CB), the OBE, the French Légion d'honneur, and the Order of Medjidie.
Growing Up and Learning
Rodolph was the second son of Jerome, 4th Count de Salis-Soglio. He went to famous schools to get his education. He studied at Eton College in England, Heidelberg University in Germany, and Oriel College at Oxford University.
A Soldier's Journey: His Military Career
Rodolph De Salis had a long and successful career in the army. He started as a Cornet in 1830. Over the years, he moved up through the ranks. He became a Lieutenant in 1833 and a Captain in 1838. By 1847, he was a Major. He continued to rise, becoming a Lieutenant Colonel in 1854 and a Colonel in 1858.
He fought in many important conflicts, showing great courage. Some of the major battles and campaigns he took part in include:

- The Battle of Balaclava
- The Battle of Tchernaya

- The Siege of Sebastopol

Family Life
Rodolph De Salis married Augusta Letitia Robinson in Paris on November 8, 1875. Augusta was born in 1839 and passed away in 1929. She was the widow of General Adolfus Derville, who had served in the Indian Army.
