Roelof Frankot (born October 25, 1911, in Meppel, Netherlands – died December 1, 1984, in Heeten, Netherlands) was a talented Dutch painter. He started his artistic journey by studying photography before finding his passion in painting.
Roelof Frankot began painting in 1930. His art often looked like the works from the CoBrA movement. This was a group of European artists who liked to create art that was very free and expressive. Frankot's paintings were usually abstract. This means they didn't show things exactly as they look in real life. Instead, they used shapes, colors, and lines to show feelings or ideas.
He often used strong, bright colors in his art. His favorite way to paint was with oil paints on canvas. Sometimes, books showing his art also included small poems he wrote himself. Many people saw Frankot as someone who brought new ideas to Dutch art. He passed away at the age of 73.
Frankot's work was shown in a big art show in 1939. This show was called Onze Kunst van Heden (Our Art of Today). It took place at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. During his life, Frankot had many art shows. His paintings were displayed in Europe, the United States, and Latin America.
