Roger Spear's Amazing Career
Joining the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
Roger Spear joined the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band in late 1964. Before that, he had his own jazz band called New Jungle Orchestra. With the Bonzos, he helped write fun songs like "Shirt" and "Tubas in the Moonlight." He was also famous for creating cool robots and playing the theremin in songs like "Noises for the Leg."
Roger's Solo Adventures
After the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band went their separate ways, Roger Spear continued making music. He was part of a band called biGGrunt for a short time. He also had his own show called "Roger Ruskin Spear and his Giant Kinetic Wardrobe." This show was also known as "Giant Orchestral Wardrobe."
In 1979, Roger formed a band called Tatty Ollity. They released a song called "Punktuation." Later, in 1985, he created The Slightly Dangerous Brothers. This group made a song called "Let's Talk Basic," which featured some of Roger's robot creations in its video.
Roger also played saxophone in a show called Rawlinson Dog Ends in 1991. He appeared on other albums too, like Go Man Gorman. He was also a co-founder of the band Bill Posters Will Be Band.
Performing with Other Bands
Roger Spear performed regularly with a group called Three Bonzos and a Piano until 2014. This band included other former members of the Bonzo Dog Band. He also played with BonzoBills, which was a mix of musicians from Bill Posters and the Bonzos.
Besides his music, Roger Spear also taught 3D design. He taught part-time at the Chelsea College of Art.
