Early Life and Beginnings
Roger Spottiswoode was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in Britain. His father, Raymond Spottiswoode, was also involved in films. He worked at the National Film Board of Canada in the 1940s.
In the 1960s, Roger started his career in the British film industry. He began as a trainee editor. He learned a lot from an experienced editor named John Bloom.
Roger Spottiswoode's Career
In the early 1970s, Roger worked as an editor for several films. He then decided he wanted to direct movies. A director named Walter Hill suggested he try writing a script first. Roger and Walter worked together on some scripts.
Roger started directing films in the early 1980s. He has directed many well-known movies and TV shows. Some of his famous films include Under Fire from 1983. He also directed the 1997 James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, starring Pierce Brosnan.
In 2000, he directed the action movie The 6th Day, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. Roger was also part of the writing team for the movie 48 Hrs..
