Rahul Kumar Velpula (born on January 26, 1989), known as Roll Rida, is an Indian rapper, songwriter, and actor. He is famous for his work in Telugu movies and music.
He became very popular with his YouTube rap song called Patang. This song was about the festival of Sankranthi and got over 17 million views! Some of his other well-known songs include Kirana rap, Breaking news Kattif, Shankar Ka Beta, Ivvalane Dilkush, Ignite, and Arupu. In 2018, he joined the TV show Bigg Boss 2 as a contestant. He did very well, staying until the 15th week and finishing in 6th place.

Early Life and School
Roll Rida was born in Karimnagar, Telangana, India. He went to Johnson Grammar School in Hyderabad. Later, he studied at Narayana Junior College. He earned his degree in computer science from CVR College of Engineering in Hyderabad. He was known for his singing in school. In college, he even started a music band with his friend, Syed Kamran.
Roll Rida's Music Journey
Before becoming a full-time musician, Roll Rida worked at Google in Hyderabad. He also worked as a Quality Analyst at Tech Mahindra. A Quality Analyst checks if products or services meet certain standards.
His professional name, Roll Rida, was suggested by a friend. It was inspired by the famous American rapper, Flo Rida. In 2017, Roll Rida left his job to focus on his music career. His rap song 'Arupu' with Syed Kamran became very popular. He was one of the first artists to create a rap song in the Telugu language from Telangana State.
In 2013, he released his first single, Patang, on Sankranthi. It became a huge hit on YouTube, getting over 14 million views. His songs like Patang, Kirana song, and Dilkush are favorites among young people. He traveled to the USA in 2015 and 2016 to share his Telugu rap and Hip Hop music. Roll Rida was even featured on VH1 in 2010.
He has worked with famous Telugu music directors. These include M. M. Keeravani, S. S. Thaman, and Anoop Rubens. He also performed with the rapper Divine. Roll Rida has also lent his voice for actors in movies. He was a voice artist for Akhil Akkineni in the film Manam. He also voiced for Jr. NTR in Temper. He acted in a short film called Hello!, which was a romantic comedy. It was released on YouTube. His popularity helped him get selected for Bigg Boss 2. He stayed in the house almost until the end of the season.
