Anirudh Ravichander (born October 16, 1990), often known just as Anirudh, is an Indian music composer, playback singer, and producer. He is famous for creating music for movies in Tamil cinema, as well as in Telugu and Hindi films.

Anirudh became a global sensation with his first song, "Why This Kolaveri Di". He made it for the 2012 movie 3. The song went viral on the internet and has over 450 million views on YouTube. This amazing start led him to work on many big movies.

He created hit songs for the movie Kaththi (2014), including the popular track "Selfie Pulla". He later composed music for superstar Rajinikanth's movie Petta (2019). Anirudh has won many awards for his music, including two Filmfare Awards South and ten SIIMA Awards.

In 2016, he signed a deal with Sony Music to release his own albums and for his live concerts. He also worked with the American music group Major Lazer on a remix of their song "Cold Water".

Early Life and Family

Anirudh Ravichander was born in Chennai, India. His father, Ravi Raghavendra, is an actor, and his mother, Lakshmi Ravichander, is a classical dancer. Music and art run in his family.

His aunt is Latha Rajinikanth, which makes the famous actor Rajinikanth his uncle. Anirudh's great-grandfather, K. Subramanyam, was a well-known film director in the 1930s.

Anirudh graduated from Loyola College in 2011. He also studied piano at the Trinity College of Music in London. During his school days, he was part of a band that won a TV competition judged by the legendary musician A. R. Rahman.

Musical Journey

2011–2012: A Viral Debut

Anirudh's career started with a bang. His cousin, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, asked him to compose music for her first movie, 3. Before the movie was released, one of the songs, "Why This Kolaveri Di", was leaked online. The team decided to release it officially, and it became a huge hit overnight.

The song, sung by actor Dhanush, was famous for its simple and funny "Tanglish" (Tamil and English) lyrics. It became the most-searched video on YouTube in India. The song is about a character who is sad after a breakup. Anirudh said he composed the tune in just 10 minutes! The rest of the movie's songs were also very successful.

2013–2015: Rising to the Top

After his first success, Anirudh composed music for many more films. He worked on Ethir Neechal, where he introduced popular rappers like Yo Yo Honey Singh and Hiphop Tamizha to Tamil music.

His music for Vanakkam Chennai was also a hit. For the song "Oh Penne," he worked with the famous singer Vishal Dadlani. He also composed the music for Velaiyilla Pattathari, which won him a Filmfare Award for Best Music Director.

In 2014, director A.R. Murugadoss chose him to create music for the movie Kaththi, starring the actor Vijay. The album was a massive success and became one of his most famous works at the time. He continued to create hits for movies like Maan Karate and Kaaki Sattai.

2016–Present: Becoming a Superstar Composer

Anirudh's success continued to grow. He worked with actor Ajith Kumar for the first time on the movie Vedalam. The song "Aaluma Doluma" from the film became a huge dance hit. He also composed music for popular films like Remo and Velaikkaaran.

In 2018, he composed music for his first Telugu movie, Agnyaathavaasi. He also worked on Thaanaa Serndha Koottam starring Suriya. His music for Kolamavu Kokila was praised for its fresh and unique sound.

One of his biggest projects was composing for his uncle Rajinikanth's movie Petta. He later worked with actor Vijay again for the movie Master. The songs "Kutti Story" and "Vaathi Coming" from this film became viral hits around the world.

In 2022, he created the music for Beast. The song "Arabic Kuthu" was a global sensation, mixing Arabic and Tamil sounds. It broke records for being the most-viewed South Indian song in 24 hours. He also composed for the blockbuster film Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan.

Anirudh made his full debut as a composer in Bollywood with the Shah Rukh Khan movie Jawan in 2023. The music was a huge success. In the same year, he composed for two of the biggest Tamil films, Leo starring Vijay and Jailer starring Rajinikanth.
