Roman Nose State Park is a beautiful state park in Blaine County, Oklahoma. It's about 7 miles (11 km) north of Watonga, Oklahoma. This park is special because it was one of the first seven state parks ever created in Oklahoma!

The park is nestled in a small canyon, offering lots of fun things to do. You can enjoy a golf course, swimming pools, and hiking trails. There are also two lakes, Lake Watonga and Lake Boecher, where you can go trout fishing when it's the right season. Other activities include canoeing, paddle boating, mountain biking, and even horse riding with stables and hayrides. If you want to stay overnight, the park has the Roman Nose Lodge, which was updated in 2010. There are also more than 90 campsites for tents and RVs.

Roman Nose State Park was created in 1937. This happened during a time called the New Deal. The New Deal was a series of programs started by President Franklin Roosevelt to help the country. The park was built by a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC helped people find jobs during a tough economic time. They built many parks and public places across the United States.

Who Was Roman Nose?

The park is named after a famous Cheyenne chief. His name was Henry Roman Nose. He was a respected leader of the Cheyenne people. Chief Roman Nose passed away in the canyon area in 1917. Naming the park after him honors his memory and his connection to this land.

Animals You Might See

Roman Nose State Park is home to many different animals. If you visit, you might spot whitetail deer roaming around. The park is also a great place for birdwatching. More than 85 different kinds of birds live here!
