History of Rome City
Rome City was first planned out in 1839. A post office, where people send and receive mail, started operating in the town in 1868.

Rome City is located next to Sylvan Lake. Indiana State Road 9 runs through the town.

Famous People from Rome City
- Ford Frick was a very important person in baseball. He was the commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1951 to 1965. He went to high school in Rome City.
- Gene Stratton Porter (1863–1924) was a famous author and nature photographer. She also produced movies during the silent film era. She lived near Rome City from 1913 to 1919. Her home, called the Cabin at Wildflower Woods, is now a historic site. It is open to the public and is managed by the Indiana State Museum.
