Ronnie Goodall Cavenall (born April 30, 1959) is an American retired basketball player. He played as a center, a position usually for tall players who play close to the basket.

Ron Cavenall's Basketball Journey

Ron Cavenall played college basketball for Texas Southern University. Even though he was a strong player, he was not chosen in the 1981 NBA draft when he finished college. This means no NBA team picked him right away.

After college, Ron went to Australia to play for the Sydney Supersonics in the National Basketball League. When he came back to America, he joined the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played for the Washington Generals and also for the Harlem Wizards, a famous basketball show team.

Playing for the New York Knicks

While playing with the Harlem Wizards, Ron caught the eye of Rick Pitino. At that time, Pitino was an assistant coach for the New York Knicks, a major NBA team. Ron was invited to join the Knicks for their 1984 NBA Summer League games.

He played well enough to make the Knicks' main team roster. During the 1984-85 NBA season, Ron played in 53 games. He started in 2 of those games. On average, he played about 12 minutes per game, scoring 1.8 points and grabbing 3.1 rebounds.

Later Career and Other Teams

After that season, the Knicks did not sign Ron again. He then spent the next few years playing for three different teams in the CBA. In 1988, he got another chance to play in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets.

However, his time with the Nets was short. He played only five games with limited time on the court before being released in December 1988. Ron spent the rest of his career playing for various teams in the CBA. His last season was in 1992–1993 with the Columbus Horizon.

Life After Basketball

Ron Cavenall is now retired from playing basketball. He currently lives in Houston, Texas.
