DaVonche Therhon "Ron" Galimore (born March 7, 1959) is a famous American former gymnast. He was known for his amazing skills in artistic gymnastics.
Ron Galimore's Gymnastics Career
Ron Galimore was a top gymnast in the United States. He won many national championships. He was the U.S. champion in floor exercise in 1977, 1979, and 1980. He also won the vault championship in 1977, 1979, 1980, and 1981. These wins showed he was one of the best gymnasts in the country.
Olympic Dream
Ron was a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team. He worked hard and earned a spot on the 1980 U.S. Olympic team. This was a huge achievement for any athlete. However, the team did not go to the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. The United States led a boycott of the games. This meant U.S. athletes could not compete.
Years later, Ron and 460 other athletes received a special award. They were given a Congressional Gold Medal. This medal is one of the highest awards given to civilians in the U.S. It honored their sacrifice and dedication.
After Competing
After his gymnastics career, Ron Galimore continued to work in the sport. He became the Chief Operating Officer of USA Gymnastics. This is the main organization for gymnastics in the United States. He held this important role from 2011 until November 2018.
Ron's Family Life
Ron Galimore's father was Willie Galimore. Willie was a very famous football player. He was a star in the National Football League. He is also in the College Football Hall of Fame. Sadly, Willie Galimore passed away in an accident before the 1964 football season.
