Ron Jackson is a talented American jazz guitarist. He also writes music, arranges it, and teaches others how to play. He was born in 1964.

Ron Jackson's Early Life

Ron Jackson was born in the Philippines on July 27, 1964. His father was serving with the US Marines there. Ron started playing the guitar when he was 11 years old. He played his first professional show at age 15.

In 1982, he went to the Berklee College of Music. He focused on writing and arranging music. In 1985, he moved to Paris for two years. While there, he started playing the electric bass. In 1987, he moved to New York City and went back to playing guitar. As a jazz guitarist, he began touring across North America and Europe.

Music Career and Tours

The 1990s

In 1991, Ron Jackson released his first album as a leader, called A Guitar Thing. He was 27 years old at the time. Famous musicians like Benny Green played on it. This album became very popular on the radio.

He then released another album, Thinking of You, with Muse Records. In the early 1990s, Ron led his own group, the Ron Jackson Quartet. In 1995, he joined a group called 5 Guitars Play Mingus. He played with other great guitarists like Russell Malone. They performed in New York.

Soon after, he released an album of duets with Rufus Reid. It was called Song for Luis. In 1996, Ron won first prize in a big jazz guitar competition. Throughout his career, he has played many different types of music jobs. These include playing for weddings and parties. He was also a member of the Rufus Reid Trio. In 1999, Ron released the album Concrete Jungle.

The 2000s and Beyond

After Concrete Jungle, Ron Jackson started his own music company, Roni Music. Since then, he has released all his albums independently. In 2003, he released The Dream I Had. This album featured both classic jazz songs and his own new music.

In 2008, he released Flubby Dubby. In 2012, he released Burning Gums, which was the first album for his group of the same name. Ron has toured and recorded with many different groups. He has played regularly in famous jazz clubs in New York City. These include Birdland and the Blue Note Jazz Club.

Ron has played with many well-known musicians. Some of these include Randy Weston, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Benny Golson.

Teaching Music

Ron Jackson is also a dedicated jazz teacher and guitar instructor. He has taught at several important music programs. These include the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Jazz At Lincoln Center. Ron also writes articles for Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
