Roosevelt "Rosey" Taylor (July 4, 1937 – May 29, 2020) was an American professional football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Rosey played for the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Washington Redskins.
He went to college at Grambling State University. While there, he was part of a strong defense that won a championship in 1960. Later, in the NFL, Taylor became famous for catching the ball from opposing teams. He led the entire NFL with nine interceptions in 1963. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player.
Rosey Taylor's Amazing Career
Rosey Taylor was a very important player for the Chicago Bears. He helped them win the NFL Championship in 1963. That year, he led the Bears in interceptions. He also helped the team by returning kicks. The Bears' defense was coached by George Allen, who later became very famous.
Big Plays and Awards
In 1968, Rosey made an amazing play. He caught an interception and ran it back 96 yards! This was almost the entire length of the field. He was chosen twice to play in the Pro Bowl. The Pro Bowl is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL.
Rosey was known for being tough. He never missed a game in almost nine seasons with the Bears. Later in his career, he played in Super Bowl VII with the Washington Redskins. His old coach, George Allen, was also the head coach for the Redskins then. In 2019, the Chicago Bears celebrated their 100th season. Rosey Taylor was named the 56th greatest player in Bears history.

Before playing professional football, Rosey Taylor was a star in high school. He was an all-city football player at Joseph S. Clark Sr. High School. This school is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he grew up.
Hall of Fame Honors
Rosey Taylor's great career was recognized after he retired. In 2010, he was inducted into the Grambling State University Hall of Fame. This honor celebrates his achievements in college football. He is also a member of the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame.
Rosey Taylor passed away on May 29, 2020, at the age of 82.
