Roque del Oeste is a small, uninhabited island located in the Canary Islands, a group of islands belonging to Spain. Its name means "rock of the west" in Spanish. Sometimes, it is also called Roque del Infierno, which means "rock of hell". This tiny island is part of the Chinijo Archipelago, a group of islands found northeast of the main Canary Islands.
Where is Roque del Oeste?
Roque del Oeste is situated very close to another island called Montaña Clara, just about half a kilometer away. It's in the far northeastern part of the Canary Islands. The highest point on this small island is 41 meters above the sea. To give you an idea, that's about the height of a 13-story building!
Part of a Protected Area
Even though it's small and no one lives there, Roque del Oeste is very important for nature. It is part of a special area called the Los Islotes nature reserve. This reserve is itself a part of a bigger natural park known as the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park. These parks help protect the unique plants and animals that live on and around these islands.
