About Rose Gentians
Rose gentians are plants that can be either annual or perennial. This means some types live for just one growing season. Other types come back year after year. They are also herbaceous plants. This means they have soft, green stems, not woody ones like trees. These plants can grow to be quite tall, from about 10 to 130 centimeters (about 4 inches to over 4 feet).
What They Look Like
Rose gentians have opposite leaves. This means their leaves grow in pairs directly across from each other on the stem. Their flowers are very pretty. They grow in large clusters called cymes at the top of the stems. Each flower has a corolla, which is the part made up of petals. This corolla usually has 5 to 12 lobes or sections. The petals are often pink or white. In the very center of the flower, there is a bright yellow 'eye'. This yellow center makes the flowers stand out.
Life Cycle and Seeds
After the flowers bloom, the plant produces a fruit called a capsule. This capsule is like a small, dry container. Inside, it holds many tiny seeds. These seeds can then grow into new rose gentian plants. This is how the plants reproduce and spread.
