Rosemary Jeanne Harris (born February 20, 1923 – died October 14, 2019) was a British writer who wrote many stories for children. She won a very special award called the Carnegie Medal in 1968 for one of her books. This award is given to the best children's book published in the UK each year.

Rosemary Harris's Early Life and Education
Rosemary Harris was born in London, England, in February 1923. Her father was Sir Arthur Harris, and her mother was Barbara Daisy Kyrle Money. Rosemary went to school in Weymouth. After that, she studied art at several colleges, including the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, the Chelsea School of Art, and the Courtauld Institute.
Her Work During and After World War II
During World War II, Rosemary helped as a nurse in the British Red Cross. After the war, she worked as a picture restorer, which means she fixed old paintings. She also worked as a reader for a big movie company called Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. From 1970 to 1973, she reviewed children's books for The Times newspaper.
Her Award-Winning Books
Rosemary Harris is best known for her book The Moon in the Cloud, which was published in 1968. This book won the annual Carnegie Medal. This award is given by the Library Association to the best children's book written by a British author that year.
The Egypt Trilogy
The Moon in the Cloud was the first book in a series of three stories set in ancient Egypt. The other two books in this exciting trilogy are The Shadow on the Sun (published in 1970) and The Bright and Morning Star (published in 1972). The Moon in the Cloud was even made into an episode for the famous BBC show Jackanory in 1978, where a storyteller reads a book aloud.
Later Life
Rosemary Harris passed away on October 14, 2019, when she was 96 years old.
