Rosena is a small, unincorporated community located in Albemarle County, Virginia. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed as part of the larger county. Rosena is found where two roads meet: Route 20 and Route 640. It's also part of the larger Stony Point area.
Local Life in Rosena
The main spot in Rosena is a general store called "Stony Point Market." This store has been around for a long time. In the past, it was known as "Bobbi's" and even before that, it was called "Bell's Store." It's a central place for people living in the community.
Rosena's History
Rosena has a bit of history tied to how people communicated and learned.
- Post Village: Back in 1904, the United States Geological Survey called Rosena a "post village." This means it had its own post office, which was important for sending and receiving mail.
- Traveling Library: By 1910, Rosena had enough people living there that it became a stop for "traveling library stations." These were like mobile libraries from the Virginia State Library. They would bring books to different communities, making sure everyone had a chance to read and learn.
