Stony Point is a small, quiet place in Albemarle County, Virginia. It's what we call an unincorporated community. Stony Point also includes two older villages, Proffit and Rosena.

A Bit of History: The General Store
A general store has been a central part of Stony Point for a very long time. It sits at the corner of Stony Point Road (State Route 20) and Turkey Sag Road (Secondary Route 640). This road is one of two that go east over the Southwest Mountains from Stony Point.
Today, the store is called "Stony Point Market." In the past, during the late 1900s, it was known as "Bobby's" and "Bell's Store." The very first general store at this spot opened in 1797. It was owned by Colonel Nimrod Branham. He was a member of the House of Delegates. This group helps make laws for the state of Virginia.
