Exploring Rosewood's Past
How Rosewood Began
Rosewood was started by William W. Rosewoods. It's known as a "Main Line" town, which means it has a long history. This history is connected to the important railroad business from the 1800s. Many families in Rosewood, like the Hastings, have been wealthy for a very long time.
Rosewood used to have many farms, cornfields, and barns. Today, many of these old buildings have been changed. They are now apartments or other kinds of buildings.
Rosewood's Look and Feel
Many homes of the characters in the story are close to forests. For example, Emily's backyard is next to the woods. Spencer and Alison's neighborhood is also surrounded by trees. The Kahn family's large property is also near a forest.
Even though it has many rural areas, Rosewood is a fairly big town. It even has a fancy shopping center called the King James Mall.
Rosewood on TV
In the TV show, Rosewood is about 20 miles from Philadelphia. It is also near another make-believe town called Ravenswood. There was a special hospital, Radley Sanitarium, located east of Rosewood. This hospital later became the Radley Hotel.
Rosewood has its own newspaper called The Rosewood Observer. A restaurant called the Apple Rose Grille was built using the set from Luke's Diner in the TV show Gilmore Girls. The town has about 7,989 people living there.
Most outdoor scenes for the TV show are filmed at the Warner Bros. studio in Burbank. The indoor scenes are filmed on special sound stages nearby.
