Roshan Ranawana (born March 23, 1981) is a famous actor and model from Sri Lanka. He is known for his roles in many popular movies. In 2013, he won the award for the most popular actor at the Derana Film Awards.

Roshan started his acting career in 2006 with the movie Hiripoda Wessa. For this role, he won a special award for the best new actor. He has starred in many successful films like Tharaka Mal (2007), Asai Mang Piyabanna (2007), and Dancing Star (2009).

Roshan Ranawana is married to his wife, Kushlani. They have a son named Minneth, who was born in 2019.

Interests and Charity Work

Roshan is a devoted Buddhist. He is also a vegetarian and has appeared on TNL TV to talk about living a vegetarian life. He cares a lot about helping others. He works with the Cancer Care Association to help prevent cancer across Sri Lanka.

Roshan's Modelling Career

Before becoming an actor, Roshan worked as a travel executive. Soon after, he started his career as a model.

International Modelling Competitions

• In 2002, he was chosen to represent Sri Lanka at the Manhunt International competition in China. He finished in seventh place.
• In 2003, he took part in the Mr. World competition in the United Kingdom. He also competed in Grassim International in the UK.
• Later in 2003, he was the second runner-up in the Best Model of the World competition held in Turkey.
• In 2006, he placed eighth in the Mr. International competition in Singapore.
• Between 2003 and 2006, he won the "Best National Costume" award in two different pageants.

Roshan's Acting Journey

Starting in Movies

Roshan Ranawana began his movie career with the very popular teen romance film Hiripoda Wassa (2006). This movie was directed by Udayakantha Warnasuriya. Roshan has said that his character, Prageeth, in this film is one of his favorite roles.

For his role in Hiripoda Wassa, he won a Presidential Award for the best new actor. After the success of Hiripoda Wassa and Asai Man Piyambanna (2007), he became a well-known name in the Sri Lankan film industry. In Asai Man Piyabanna, he starred alongside the South Indian actress Pooja Umashankar. Because of his popularity, he became an ambassador for Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT).

Successful Films

Roshan's second and third movies, Tharaka Mal and Asai Mang Piyabanna, both came out in 2007. Since then, he has acted in more than 15 movies. Many of these were commercial hits, and he often played the main character. In 2013, he won the "Most Popular Actor" award at the Derana Film Awards for his role in the film Sri Siddhartha Gautama.

Television Work

Roshan first appeared on television in the soap opera Vasuda, which was shown on Sirasa TV. He has acted in a few other TV shows, but his busy movie schedule kept him from doing too many.

In 2008, he joined the first season of the Sri Lankan reality dance show Sirasa Dancing Stars, also on Sirasa TV. He finished in third place in the competition. Roshan is also a judge on the popular beauty contest Derana Veet Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World on Derana TV.

In 2011, he launched his official website at a special event in Colombo. He also appeared in his own music video called Neela Neth in 2010.
