Roshan Ranawana (Sinhala: රොෂාන් රණවන) was born on March 23, 1981. He is a famous Sri Lankan actor and model. Roshan won the award for the most popular actor at the Derana Film Awards in 2013.

He started his acting journey with the movie Hiripoda Wessa in 2006. For this role, he received a Presidential award for the best new actor. Roshan has played the main character in many successful movies. These include Tharaka Mal (2007), Asai Mang Piyabanna (2007), Rosa Kale (2008), Feel My Love (2008), Dancing Star (2009), and Suwanda Danuna Jeewithe (2010).

Family and Beliefs

Roshan is married to his wife, Kushlani. They have a son named Minneth, who was born in 2019.

Roshan is a Buddhist and chooses to be a vegetarian. He has appeared on TNL TV in many shows about living a vegetarian life. He also helps with the Cancer Care Association. He works to prevent cancer around Sri Lanka.

Roshan Ranawana's Modeling Career

Before becoming an actor, Roshan worked in travel. Soon after, he became a model for Manhunt International China in 2002. He placed seventh in that competition.

In 2003, he took part in the Mr. World and Grassim International events in the UK. In the same year, he was the second runner-up in the Best Model of the World competition in Turkey. He also won the Best National Costume award in two different pageants between 2003 and 2006.

Roshan Ranawana's Acting Journey

Starting in Movies

Roshan began his movie career with the popular teen romance film Hiripoda Wassa. This movie was directed by Udayakantha Warnasuriya. Roshan often says that his character, Prageeth, is one of his favorite roles.

Later, he won a Presidential Award for the best new actor for his work in Hiripoda Wassa. He became very well-known in Sri Lanka after the success of Hiripoda Wassa and Asai Man Piyambanna. In Asai Man Piyambanna, he acted alongside the South Indian actress Pooja Umashankar in 2007. Because of his popularity, he became an ambassador for Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT).

His second and third movies, Tharaka Mal and Asai Mang Piyabanna, both came out in 2007. Since then, he has acted in more than 15 movies. Many of these were commercial hits, and he often played the main character. In 2013, he won the most popular actor award at the Derana Film Awards. This was for his role in the movie Sri Siddhartha Gautama.

Television Roles and Other Work

Roshan started acting on television in the soap opera Vasuda, which was shown on Sirasa TV. He has acted in only a few TV shows because he was very busy with his movie career.

In 2008, he joined the first season of the Sri Lankan dance reality show Sirasa Dancing Stars. This show was broadcast by Sirasa TV, and Roshan finished in third place. He is also one of the judges for the popular beauty contest Derana Veet Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World on Derana TV.

In 2011, Roshan launched his official website at a special event in Colombo. He also appeared in his own music video, Neela Neth, with Steven Krishan in 2010.
