Roshni Nadar Malhotra, born in 1982, is a very important businesswoman and helper of others (philanthropist) from India. She is the chairperson of HCL Technologies, a big technology company. She made history as the first woman to lead a listed IT company in India.

Roshni is the only child of Shiv Nadar, who started the HCL Group. Her father is also one of the richest people in India. In 2024, Forbes magazine listed her as the 60th most powerful woman in the world. She was also on this list in 2019, ranking 54th.

She is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HCL Corporation. This company manages all the different parts of the HCL Group.

Early Life and Education

Roshni Nadar is the daughter of Shiv Nadar and Kiran Nadar. Her father, Shiv Nadar, founded HCLTech. Her mother, Kiran Nadar, is known for her work helping others.

Roshni grew up in Delhi, India. She went to Vasant Valley School there. Later, she studied at Northwestern University in the United States. She earned a degree in communication, focusing on Radio, TV, and Film. She also got a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School of Management.

Her Career Journey

Before joining HCL, Roshni worked as a producer for different companies. She joined HCL and quickly moved up. Within a year, she became an executive director and CEO of HCL Corporation.

Later, her father, Shiv Nadar, stepped down from his role. Roshni then became the chairperson of HCL Technologies. In 2025, she became the biggest shareholder of HCL. This happened after her father gave her 47% of his shares in HCL Technologies.

Helping Others Through Foundations

Before becoming CEO of HCL Corporation, Roshni Nadar was a trustee for the Shiv Nadar Foundation. This foundation runs the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in Chennai, which is a not-for-profit college.

She is also the chairperson of VidyaGyan Leadership Academy. This academy helps young people who are not well-off financially. It gives them a chance to become leaders. Roshni also started 'The Habitats' trust. This trust works to protect India's natural places and animals. Its goal is to create and keep healthy environments for everyone.

Personal Life

Roshni Nadar is a talented classical musician. In 2010, she married Shikhar Malhotra. He is the vice chairman of HCL Healthcare. They have two sons together.

Roshni Nadar has received many awards for her work:

  • 2014: She was named the Young Philanthropist of the Year by NDTV.
  • 2015: She received "The World's Most Innovative People Award." This was for her new ideas in helping others. The award came from The World Summit on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (WSIE).
  • 2017: Vogue India magazine named her Philanthropist of the Year.
  • 2023: Forbes magazine ranked her 60th on their list of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women.
  • 2023: Fortune magazine ranked her 72nd on their list of Most Powerful Women.
  • 2025: She was included in the Hurun India 2025 Women Leaders List.
