The Story of Roundhead
People first settled in Roundhead way back in 1832. This was on the land where a village of the Wyandot Native American tribe used to be. The community got its name from a famous Wyandot chief named Chief Roundhead. Over the years, people called this place by a few different names, like "Round Head" or "Roundheads Town." The post office in Roundhead has been open since 1837, helping people send and receive mail for a very long time!
There's also an important old site nearby called the Zimmerman Kame. It's a special place where archaeologists study the past. This site is so important that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which means it's protected for its historical value.
Where is Roundhead?
Roundhead is located about 1,004 feet (or 306 meters) above sea level. You can find it where three main roads meet: State Route 117, State Route 235, and State Route 385.
It's about 2.75 miles (4.4 kilometers) north of Indian Lake. It's also about 13 miles (21 kilometers) southwest of Kenton, which is the main city in Hardin County. Even though Roundhead is close to Indian Lake and the Great Miami River, its water actually flows into the Scioto River. The Scioto River eventually joins the Ohio River.
What's in Roundhead?
Besides its post office, the community of Roundhead has a few other important places. There's a park where people can relax and play. It also has a volunteer fire department that helps keep everyone safe. You'll find a United Methodist Church and a local restaurant/bar. There are also two cemeteries in the area.
