What is Rowan Like?
Even though Rowan is a small town with 123 people, it has many things to offer. It is located right along Highway 3 in Wright County.
- Iowa River Players Community Theatre: This theater is in the old school gym. It puts on 3 to 4 shows each year. People from nearby towns come to watch these performances.
- Rowan Community Building: This building on Main Street was built in 2007. It holds the Rowan Public Library, the City Hall, and a Community Center.
- Main Street Features: Rowan's main street also has a playground, a fire station, and local businesses. You can find a custom wood framing shop and a machine and welding business. There is also a historical museum.
- Local Businesses: NEW Cooperative has a new grain elevator and feed mill east of town.
- Churches: Rowan has one church in town, the United Church of Rowan. This church combines two different church groups. There is also another church a few miles west of town.
- Location Benefits: Rowan offers affordable homes. It is an easy 10-mile drive to bigger towns like Belmond or Clarion. Interstate 35 is also only 7 miles away.
Schools in Rowan
The Belmond–Klemme Community School District serves the students in Rowan.
The original school building was made of brick in 1914. A gym was added in 1949. In 1962, the Rowan School District joined with the Belmond Community School District. High school students started going to Belmond in 1962. Junior high students moved in 1963. The elementary school stayed open until 1971, then it closed. The old brick classrooms were taken down in 1977.
The gym from 1949 is now called the Rowan Events Center. The City of Rowan owns it. This gym is now home to the Iowa River Players Community Theatre. The lower part of the building has a community room. This room is used for events like the Legion Fish Fry and the Lions Chicken Barbecue.
Today, the Belmond–Klemme School District teaches about 700 students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
