Early Life and Name
Chad Marshall grew up in a part of Brooklyn called "the 90s." This area is in East Flatbush. When he was a kid, people often called him "rowdy" because of his energetic personality. This is how he got his stage name, Rowdy Rebel.
Many members of the GS9 group, including Bobby Shmurda, also grew up in this same area of East Flatbush. Rowdy Rebel's family background includes both Jamaican and Bajan heritage.
Music Career
Rowdy Rebel became famous in 2014. This was when his friend, Bobby Shmurda, and the GS9 group started to get a lot of attention. Just two weeks after Bobby Shmurda signed with Epic Records, Rowdy Rebel also signed a deal with the same record label in July 2014.
He released several songs, including "Computers." This song was part of GS9's Shmoney Shmurda (Shmixtape) project. In October 2014, he put out another song called "Beam Jawn." This song did not feature any other artists from the GS9 group.
Return to Music
In June 2020, Rowdy Rebel was featured on the song "Make It Rain" by the late rapper Pop Smoke. This was his first new music in three years. The song was a big hit, reaching number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was Rowdy Rebel's first song to appear on this important music chart.
After a break from music, Rowdy Rebel was interviewed by Complex magazine in December 2020. He shared that he wanted to release new music right away. However, his team suggested he work more on a full album. This album might be called Rowdy vs. Rebel. He also confirmed that he is still signed with Epic Records.
On February 12, 2021, Rowdy Rebel released a new song called "Jesse Owens." This song featured the Canadian rapper Nav. Since 2021, Rowdy Rebel has released three main music projects. These include 'Rebel vs. Rowdy' in 2022, 'Splash Brothers' with Fetty Luciano in 2023, and his most recent project, 'Back Outside'.
Music Style
Much of Rowdy Rebel's music talks about the neighborhood where he grew up. He has said that he and other GS9 members mention their friends from the area in their songs. This helps to "keep their names alive" and remember them.
