Yo Gotti's Music Journey

Early Days and First Steps in Music

Mario began making music when he was about 14 years old. He started rapping as Lil Yo. He worked with DJ Sound and his music group. This was how he first got involved in the music scene.

First Major Album: Live from the Kitchen

After some delays, Yo Gotti released his first album with a major record company. This album, called Live From The Kitchen, came out on January 10, 2012. It included popular songs like "5 Star" and "Women Lie, Men Lie" featuring Lil Wayne.

Live From The Kitchen reached number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart. Even though it was a good start, Gotti decided to leave RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music later that year. He wanted to explore new opportunities for his music.

Starting His Own Label and New Deals

In early 2013, Yo Gotti announced a big step for his career. His label, CMG, signed a deal with Epic Records. This partnership was made possible by his long-time business partner, L.A. Reid.

In May 2013, Gotti shared that his next album would be titled I Am. The first song from this album was "Act Right," featuring Young Jeezy and YG. This song became popular on the music charts.

More Albums and Big Collaborations

Yo Gotti released I Am on November 19, 2013. To promote the album, he went on the I Am Tour. Other artists like YG and Shy Glizzy joined him on this tour. He also released a mixtape called Nov 19: The Mixtape before the album came out.

In February 2016, Gotti released his album The Art of Hustle. This album was very successful, reaching number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. The main song from the album, "Down in the DM", was a big hit. A remix of the song featured superstar Nicki Minaj.

Later in 2016, Yo Gotti made a deal with Jay-Z's company, Roc Nation. This partnership helped his own CMG label grow even more.

Continued Success and New Ventures

In June 2017, Gotti released a mixtape called Gotti Made-It with producer Mike Will Made It. The song "Rake It Up" from this mixtape, featuring Nicki Minaj, became his highest-charting song. It reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was also included on his ninth album, I Still Am (2017).

His tenth album, Untrapped, came out in January 2020. It was another top-ten album on the Billboard 200. This album featured many famous artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, and Rick Ross.

In July 2020, Gotti released "Recession Proof." This song celebrated his long career and his success as a businessman. He also highlighted the artists on his CMG label, such as 42 Dugg and Moneybagg Yo.

In September 2021, Yo Gotti became a co-owner of the Major League Soccer team D.C. United. He shared that his son introduced him to soccer, and he saw how much the sport had grown.

Gotti's eleventh album, CM10: Free Game, was released in February 2022. It is a double album with two parts: "Free" and "Game."
