Ackquille Jean Pollard (born August 4, 1994), who is known by his stage name Bobby Shmurda, is an American rapper. Along with his friend Rowdy Rebel, Shmurda is known as one of the first artists to create Brooklyn drill music. He became famous around the world in 2014. His song, "Hot...", reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart. Because of the song's success, he signed a contract with Epic Records and released his first EP, Shmurda She Wrote, in 2014.
In December 2014, Shmurda faced serious legal charges. In 2016, he was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was given credit for two years he had already served while waiting for his trial. After more than six years, Shmurda was released in February 2021. Many people in the hip-hop community were happy about his release.

Early Life
Ackquille Pollard was born in Miami, Florida. His mother is African-American and his father is from Jamaica. After his father was sent to prison, his mother moved with him to East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Music Career
Rise to Fame
The first song Shmurda ever remixed was "Knuck If You Buck" by Crime Mob. However, he first got major attention in 2014 with his song "Hot...". The song used the beat from Lloyd Banks' 2012 song "Jackpot".
The song and its music video quickly became very popular on YouTube in the spring of 2014. Shmurda's "Shmoney dance" from the video became a famous internet meme. Many people, including celebrities like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Drake, copied the dance. Many other rappers, like Juicy J and T.I., made their own versions of the song.
After the song went viral, Shmurda signed with Epic Records. "Hot..." was officially released as his first single. It reached the top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart and number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was certified platinum, meaning it sold over a million copies. As of July 2020, the music video had over 649 million views on YouTube.
Shmurda also became known for his song "Bobby..." which reached number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100. His first EP, Shmurda She Wrote, came out on November 10, 2014.
Career After Prison
Shmurda planned to release his first album in 2016, but it was delayed because of his time in prison. While away, he continued to write music. In 2018, he was a featured artist on the song "Stoopid" by 6ix9ine. He recorded his part of the song over the prison telephone. The song was a success, reaching number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After his release from prison, Shmurda performed at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami, Florida, on July 23, 2021. It was his first concert in years. On September 3, 2021, he released his first new song, "No Time for Sleep (Freestyle)". In March 2022, he was officially released from his contract with Epic Records.
Since then, Shmurda has said he is not as interested in releasing new music. In July 2023, he announced that he was writing a book about his life.
In May 2025, Shmurda's Still Alive Tour was canceled just before it was supposed to begin. He apologized to his fans on Instagram. He said the cancellation was due to problems with the people organizing the tour. However, one of the booking agents said the tour was canceled because not enough tickets were sold.
