Marquis Amonte King (born December 12, 1992), known as Shy Glizzy, is a rapper from Washington D.C., USA. He is famous for his part in GoldLink's 2016 song "Crew". This song was a big hit, reaching number 45 on the Billboard music chart. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award!

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Shy Glizzy was born Marquis Amonte King on December 12, 1992. He grew up in Southeast Washington D.C. People started calling him "Shy" when he was very young.

As a teenager, he loved to read. He read the Quran, daily newspapers, and many biographies. This reading helped him start writing his own raps. He first tried to write a book, but it turned into a song instead. Shy Glizzy has said he listened to go-go music, not rap, when he was young. He believes this helped him create his own special sound.

Shy Glizzy's Music Journey

Starting Out: 2011-2013

Shy Glizzy released his first music project, No Brain, in January 2011. Later that year, he put out his second mixtape, Streets Hottest Youngin.

In 2012, he released his third mixtape called Law. Complex magazine even named him one of the "10 New DMV Rappers To Watch Out For." The Washington City Paper said his music was energetic and catchy.

He released two more mixtapes in 2012: Fly Money with Jose Guapo, and ... Rap. The ... Rap mixtape featured another artist named Trinidad James.

In 2013, Complex listed Shy Glizzy as one of the "15 Unsigned Rappers Who Should Get a Deal." He then released his sixth mixtape, Law 2. This mixtape included guest artists like Migos and Kevin Gates.

Growing Success: 2014-2016

In 2014, Fact magazine named Shy Glizzy one of the "10 Rappers to Watch." He released his seventh mixtape, Young Jefe, in February. This mixtape had a very popular song called "Awwsome." "Awwsome" became his biggest song, reaching number 45 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. A remix of the song with A$AP Rocky and 2 Chainz was also very popular.

In 2015, XXL magazine chose Shy Glizzy for their Freshman Class list, which highlights new artists. He released his ninth mixtape, Be Careful, with his group Glizzy Gang. He also released For Trappers Only, which was produced entirely by Zaytoven.

In 2016, Shy Glizzy released his 11th mixtape, Young Jefe 2. He has often talked about wanting to help other young artists from the DMV area. He wants to open doors for them, just like he did for himself.
