Early Life and Music Beginnings
Shy Glizzy was born Marquis Amonte King on December 12, 1992. He grew up in Southeast Washington D.C. People started calling him "Shy" when he was very young.
As a teenager, he loved to read. He read the Quran, daily newspapers, and many biographies. This reading helped him start writing his own raps. He first tried to write a book, but it turned into a song instead. Shy Glizzy has said he listened to go-go music, not rap, when he was young. He believes this helped him create his own special sound.
