Nicholaus Joseph Williams (born September 24, 1987), known as Trinidad James, is an American rapper, songwriter, and music video director. He was born in Trinidad and Tobago. In December 2012, he signed with Def Jam Recordings. He released his first song, "All Gold Everything", that same month.

"All Gold Everything" became very popular. It reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song also earned a platinum award, meaning it sold over one million copies. A remix of the song featured famous rappers like T.I., Jeezy, and 2 Chainz. Trinidad James left Def Jam in 2014.

Later in the 2010s, he started focusing more on songwriting. He has helped write songs for many artists. These include City Girls, Kehlani, Flo Milli, and Queen Naija. He co-wrote the hit song "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson. He also helped write "Barbie Dreams" for Fifty Fifty. In 2018, he signed with Artist Publishing Group. Besides writing, he has directed music videos. He directed videos for songs like "Made for Me" by Muni Long.

Early Life and Beginnings

Nicholaus Williams was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. His family moved around a lot when he was young. They lived in Canada and Florida before settling in the Bronx, New York City. As a child, he went to a Catholic school.

When he was in eighth grade, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. There, he started playing basketball. He began rapping in November 2011. He has said that Jay-Z, Cam'ron, T.I., and Jeezy were some of his biggest musical inspirations.

Music Career Highlights

In December 2012, Trinidad James released his first song, "All Gold Everything". This song quickly became a hit. It reached number 36 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. On December 13, 2012, he signed a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. The deal was worth about $2 million.

In January, Def Jam re-released his mixtape Don't Be S.A.F.E. to iTunes. This version included a remix of "All Gold Everything". The remix featured 2 Chainz, T.I., and Young Jeezy. Later that year, he performed with French Montana, ASAP Rocky, and Schoolboy Q. This was for the remix of ASAP Ferg's song, "Work". Both of these collaborations also earned platinum awards.

In August 2013, he released his second mixtape, 10 PC Mild. This mixtape came out through Def Jam and Think It's A Game Entertainment. It received mixed reviews from critics. After some time without new music, James announced on August 1, 2014, that he had left Def Jam. He said he would release his next album for free.

In April 2016, James released a song called "Just a Lil' Thick (She Juicy)". It featured Mystikal and Lil Dicky. On December 31, 2016, he released another mixtape, "The Wake Up 2". This mixtape was available on streaming services like Spotify.

On June 9, 2018, James released a song called "M.M.M. (Marilyn Maryland Marilyn)". The music video for this song was uploaded to YouTube on the same day. In November 2019, during an interview, James shared his favorite rappers. He said he loved "Doja Cat and Lil Nas X". He also said he hoped they would not "fall off" like he felt he had.

Since 2018, Trinidad James has been a host on a YouTube talk show called Full Size Run. He also appeared as himself in the movie Uncut Gems (2019).
