Sir Robert Bryson Hall II (born January 22, 1990), known professionally as Logic, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He started his music journey by releasing mixtapes.
Logic became very popular with his Young Sinatra mixtape series. The third one, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever (2013), was highly praised. This led him to sign a record deal with Def Jam Recordings. His first two studio albums, Under Pressure (2014) and The Incredible True Story (2015), both reached the top five on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. They also sold enough copies to be certified platinum.
Logic gained even more fame with his third album, Everybody (2017). It hit number one on the Billboard 200. This album featured the hit song "1-800-273-8255" (with Alessia Cara and Khalid), which reached the top three on the Billboard Hot 100. His next albums, YSIV (2018) and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019), were also very successful. The latter included the song "Homicide" (with Eminem), which peaked at number five on the Hot 100.
After his sixth album, No Pressure (2020), Logic announced he was retiring from music. However, he soon returned with his seventh mixtape, Bobby Tarantino III (2021). His seventh album, Vinyl Days (2022), was his last release with Def Jam. Logic has since released his eighth and ninth albums, College Park (2023) and Ultra 85 (2024), as an independent artist. He has been nominated for two Grammy Awards.
Beyond music, Logic is also an author. He wrote the novel Supermarket (2019), which came with a soundtrack album. The book became a New York Times Best Seller. He also published his memoir, This Bright Future, in 2021. Logic is also a popular streamer and has an exclusive deal with Twitch, making him the first musician to sign such a deal.

Logic's Early Life
Sir Robert Bryson Hall II was born on January 22, 1990, in Rockville, Maryland. His father is Black, and his mother is White. He has seven half-siblings from his parents. Logic spent most of his childhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He reconnected with his father later in life as his rap career grew.
Logic went to Gaithersburg High School. However, he was expelled in tenth grade because he often skipped classes. He later said about this, "I started doing badly and failed every class but English, so they kicked me out of school, they gave up on me."
Logic's Music Career
Starting Out: 2005–2012
When he was 13, Logic met Solomon Taylor, who became his mentor. Logic became interested in rap and hip hop after watching the movie Kill Bill: Volume 1. The music for the film was made by RZA from the hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan. This made Logic love hip hop music. He bought the Roots' album Do You Want More?!!!??!, and Taylor gave him many CDs with instrumental beats to write lyrics over.
In 2009, Logic performed under the name "Psychological." He said he liked this name because it was about the mind, and he wanted his music to make people think. He released an unofficial mixtape called Psychological – Logic: The Mixtape. This mixtape helped him open shows for famous artists like Pitbull and Ludacris in Maryland. Soon after, he shortened his stage name to "Logic."
Logic released his first official mixtape, Young, Broke & Infamous, on December 15, 2010. It was well-received and helped him gain early fans. Chris Zarou, the president of Visionary Music Group, heard the mixtape and signed Logic to his independent label. Logic's second mixtape, Young Sinatra, came out in 2011. This mixtape was highly praised by music magazines like XXL. The music video for his song "All I Do" got over a million views on YouTube in just one week.
After these successes, Logic released his third mixtape, Young Sinatra: Undeniable, on April 30, 2012. He said that he makes different kinds of sounds so fans know he's not changing as an artist. He explained, "There's stuff on there for the motherf***ers that don't pay attention to lyrics and just want to have fun, but every line is constructed with such depth that the real lyricists and nitpickers have something to listen to." After this mixtape, Logic went on his first national tour, the Visionary Music Group Tour.
Big Steps: 2012–2013
Logic went on his first European tour in March 2013. He then announced his fourth mixtape, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever, would be released on May 7. He also planned his second national tour, the Welcome to Forever Tour, to promote the mixtape. This mixtape was a big hit with critics, who called it a "free album" and praised Logic's fast growth. It has been downloaded over 900,000 times on DatPiff.
On April 15, Logic announced he had signed with Def Jam Recordings. Def Jam producer No I.D. would be the main producer for his first album. Logic said he was excited to work with Def Jam and No I.D., calling it "priceless." He also toured with Kid Cudi, Big Sean, and Tyler, the Creator on "The Cud Life Tour 2013."
First Album Success: Under Pressure (2013–2014)
On November 5, Logic shared that producers like No I.D., Hit-Boy, 6ix, and C-Sick would work on his first album. On January 27, 2014, Visionary Music Group released "24 Freestyle" to celebrate Logic's birthday. This was the first time all VMG artists worked together on a song. Logic also toured with the EDM band Krewella in spring 2014. He released several songs from his While You Wait project, including "Alright" with Childish Gambino.
In summer 2014, Logic decided that his first album would not have any guest artists. He wanted it to be "personal and focused on only me." He released "Driving Ms. Daisy" featuring Childish Gambino on August 27. In September, he announced his album title, Under Pressure, and its release date, October 21. The main song from the album, "Under Pressure," came out on September 15. On October 21, Under Pressure was released, selling over 70,000 copies in its first week and reaching number four on the US Billboard 200 chart.
On November 12, Logic performed "I'm Gone" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, marking his first time on network television.
The Incredible True Story and Bobby Tarantino (2015–2016)
On September 8, Logic released a trailer for his second album, calling it a "motion picture sci-fi epic." The album's story takes place 100 years in the future, where Earth is no longer livable. The main characters travel to a new planet called Paradise and listen to The Incredible True Story during their journey. Logic and the voice actors discussed the album at New York Comic Con.
On September 22, 2015, Logic released "Young Jesus," the first song from the album, featuring his friend Big Lenbo. The Incredible True Story was released on November 13, 2015. After this tour, Logic and rapper G-Eazy co-headlined The Endless Summer Tour. Before the tour, Logic released the song "Flexicution" on June 14, 2016, which became his first song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He was also featured on the song "Sucker for Pain" with Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, and others.
On July 1, 2016, Logic surprisingly released a mixtape called Bobby Tarantino on his Twitter account. This was his fifth mixtape and his first since 2013. It included "Flexicution" and "Wrist" and reached number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Cole, Drake, Eminem, and the Wu-Tang Clan. He also loves films by Quentin Tarantino.
