Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, known professionally as Logic, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is from Gaithersburg, Maryland. Logic first started making music in 2009 under the name "Psychological." He later shortened it to "Logic."

He became very popular with his Young Sinatra mixtape series, starting in 2011. His third mixtape, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever (2013), was highly praised. This success led him to sign a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings. Logic's first two studio albums, Under Pressure (2014) and The Incredible True Story (2015), both reached the top five on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. They also earned platinum certifications.

His albums Everybody (2017), YSIV (2018), and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019) all debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album Everybody featured the hit song "1-800-273-8255." This song reached the top three on the Billboard Hot 100. After his sixth album, No Pressure (2020), Logic announced a break from music. However, he soon returned with his seventh mixtape, Bobby Tarantino III (2021). His seventh album, Vinyl Days (2022), was his last release with Def Jam. Logic then self-released his eighth and ninth albums, College Park (2023) and Ultra 85 (2024).

Logic has received two Grammy Award nominations for his music. Beyond music, he is also an author. He released the novel Supermarket (2019), which became a New York Times Best Seller. He also published his memoir, This Bright Future, in 2021. Logic is also a popular streamer on Twitch. He was the first musician to sign an exclusive deal with Twitch in 2020.

Early life and education

Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, known as Logic, was born on January 22, 1990. His birthplace was Rockville, Maryland. He grew up in the West Deer Park neighborhood of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Logic has seven half-siblings.

Logic faced challenges during his school years. He attended several high schools in Montgomery County. He was expelled multiple times from these schools. By the tenth grade, he stopped attending school altogether. Logic later shared that he struggled in most classes. English was the only subject where he did well.

Career

2005–2012: Starting his music journey and early mixtapes

At 13, Logic met Solomon Taylor, who became his mentor. Logic developed a strong interest in rap and hip-hop music. This happened after he watched the movie Kill Bill: Volume 1. The film's music was created by RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan. Logic then began listening to the group's music.

He bought the Roots' album Do You Want More?!!!??!. Taylor then gave Logic many instrumental beats. Logic used these beats to write his own lyrics. In 2009, he performed under the name "Psychological." He chose this name because he wanted his music to make people think. He released an unofficial mixtape called Psychological – Logic: The Mixtape. This mixtape helped him open for famous artists. These included Pitbull and Ludacris in Maryland. Soon after, he shortened his stage name to "Logic."

Logic released his first official mixtape, Young, Broke & Infamous, on December 15, 2010. Critics liked the mixtape, and it helped him gain fans. Chris Zarou, from Visionary Music Group, heard it. He then signed Logic to his independent record label. The mixtape was downloaded over 300,000 times.

In 2011, Logic released his second mixtape, Young Sinatra. This was the first in his Young Sinatra series. It received great reviews from magazines like XXL. Songs like "All I Do" and "Mind of Logic" showed his dedication to music. The music video for "All I Do" quickly reached over a million views on YouTube.

His third mixtape, Young Sinatra: Undeniable, came out on April 30, 2012. In this mixtape, Logic discussed personal challenges and his future. He also talked about his school experiences. Logic explained that he created many different sounds from the start. This meant fans could not say he was changing his style. He wanted his music to be fun but also deep for listeners. After this mixtape, Logic went on his first national tour. It was called the Visionary Music Group Tour.

2012–2013: Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever and a major record deal

In early 2013, Logic was featured in XXL magazine. He was named one of the "Top 10 Freshmen" artists. Logic completed his first European tour in March 2013.

He then announced his fourth mixtape, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever. It was released on May 7, 2013. To promote it, he started his "Welcome to Forever Tour." The mixtape was a big success. Critics called it a "free album" and praised Logic's fast growth. It received over 900,000 downloads on DatPiff.

On April 15, 2013, Logic signed with Def Jam Recordings. No I.D., a Def Jam producer, became the executive producer for his first album. Logic shared his excitement about working with Def Jam. He also looked forward to collaborating with No I.D. He toured with Kid Cudi and Big Sean in late 2013.

2013–2014: Under Pressure album debut

On November 5, 2013, Logic announced the producers for his debut album. These included No I.D., Hit-Boy, and 6ix. No I.D. and 6ix were the executive producers. On January 27, 2014, Visionary Music Group released "24 Freestyle." This song celebrated Logic's birthday. It was the first collaboration among all VMG artists.

Logic toured with the EDM band Krewella in spring 2014. On April 8, he released "Now," a song for his upcoming EP While You Wait. Logic then went on the month-long While You Wait Tour. He toured with fellow Visionary Music Group member Quest. On April 22, he released "Alright" featuring Big Sean. He finished the four-track project with "Finding Forever" on May 7.

In summer 2014, Logic decided his debut album would not have guest artists. He wanted it to be very personal and focused on himself. On August 27, Logic released "Driving Ms. Daisy" with Childish Gambino. In September, he announced his album title, Under Pressure, and its release date, October 21. The title track was released on September 15. On October 14, "Buried Alive" was released as the final single.

On October 21, Logic released Under Pressure. It sold over 70,000 copies in its first week. The album debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart. On November 12, Logic performed "I'm Gone" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This was his first time on network television.

2015–2016: The Incredible True Story and Bobby Tarantino

On September 8, 2015, Logic released a trailer for his second album. He announced it would be a "motion picture sci-fi epic." The story takes place 100 years in the future. Earth has become unlivable. The main characters travel to a new planet called Paradise. During their journey, they listen to The Incredible True Story. Logic, Steven Blum, Kevin Randolph, and Anna Elyse Palchikoff were the main voice actors. They discussed the album at New York Comic Con.

On September 22, 2015, Logic released "Young Jesus." This was the first single from the album. It featured his friend Big Lenbo. "Like Woah" and "Fade Away" were released in October and November. The Incredible True Story came out on November 13, 2015. It debuted at number three on the Billboard 200. It sold 135,000 copies in its first week. The album also topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Logic then announced The Incredible World Tour for spring 2016.

After his tour, Logic and rapper G-Eazy co-headlined The Endless Summer Tour. This national tour took place in summer 2016. YG and Yo Gotti were also supporting acts. On June 14, 2016, Logic released "Flexicution." This song featured Jessica Andrea on backing vocals. It reached number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He was also featured on "Sucker for Pain" on June 24. This song was for the Suicide Squad movie soundtrack. It peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Wrist" was released on the same day. It featured vocals from Pusha T.

On July 1, 2016, Logic unexpectedly released his fifth mixtape, Bobby Tarantino. It included "Flexicution" and "Wrist." The mixtape reached number 12 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

On October 3, 2016, Logic shared the original title for his third album, AfricAryaN. He explained it was about his mixed heritage. He wanted to explore different cultures and human connections.

2017–2018: Everybody, Bobby Tarantino II and YSIV

On March 29, 2017, Logic announced his third album, Everybody. He shared the news on social media with videos. These videos showed the album cover, designed by Sam Spratt. The album was released on May 5, 2017. It included three singles: the title track, "Black Spiderman" featuring Damian Lemar Hudson, and "1-800-273-8255" featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid.

Everybody debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. It sold 247,000 album-equivalent units. The single "1-800-273-8255" was very successful. It was created with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The song was certified 5× platinum. It reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. In August 2017, Logic voiced himself in the animated series Rick and Morty. In November 2017, he released "Broken People" with Rag'n'Bone Man. This song was part of the Bright movie soundtrack.

On February 23, 2018, Logic released "44 More." This song was a follow-up to "44 Bars." It peaked at number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100. "Overnight" was released four days later. Logic then released "Everyday" with Marshmello on March 2. He announced his sixth mixtape, Bobby Tarantino II, with a video featuring Rick and Morty characters. Bobby Tarantino II was released on March 9, 2018. It featured 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Wiz Khalifa. It debuted at number one in the US. On March 30, Logic appeared in the Netflix series Rapture.

On September 28, 2018, Logic released his fourth studio album, YSIV. Before the album, he released three singles: "One Day" featuring Ryan Tedder, "The Return," and "Everybody Dies." The album included "Wu Tang Forever." This song featured all the surviving members of the Wu-Tang Clan. Logic also announced he was writing a novel and planning his own movie.

2019–2021: Supermarket, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, No Pressure, and a music break

On January 18, 2019, Logic released "Keanu Reeves." This was the lead single for his fifth album. He then released Supermarket, a novel he wrote, on March 26, 2019. It came with an accompanying soundtrack. The soundtrack explored alternative rock music. His novel became a New York Times No. 1 best-seller. The soundtrack received mixed reviews and reached No. 56 on the US Billboard 200.

On March 19, Logic announced his fifth studio album, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. He released its title track. The album's third single, "Homicide," was released on May 3. It featured Eminem. The song peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was released on May 10. It debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200. This made it his third album to top the chart.

Logic had a small acting role in the video game The Last of Us Part II. He provided the voice and motion capture for a villain. The game was released on June 19, 2020. On July 16, he announced his sixth album, No Pressure. He said it would be his last album as he wanted to focus on being a father. The album was released on July 24. It was seen as a follow-up to his 2014 debut album, Under Pressure.

On July 24, 2020, Logic began streaming full-time. He signed an exclusive deal with Twitch. He uses his streams to create music, chat with fans, and play video games. On March 20, 2021, Logic announced preorders for his autobiographical memoir, This Bright Future. It was published in September of that year. It debuted at number 4 on The New York Times Best Seller list for non-fiction. The book shares his childhood experiences and his journey as a hip-hop artist. It also discusses the challenges he faced after his hit song "1-800-273-8255."

On April 23, 2021, Logic's YouTube channel BobbysWorld uploaded "Mars Only Pt. 3." This was a collaboration with producer Madlib. Together, they are known as Madgic. The duo released two more songs, "Raddest Dad" and "Mafia Music," in the same way.

On June 16, Logic announced his return to music. He released "Intro" on June 18, his first song since returning. Over the next month, he released several singles. His seventh mixtape, Bobby Tarantino III, was released on July 30, 2021. It included four of the singles released that month.

In August 2021, Logic made his on-screen acting debut. He appeared in the Apple TV series Mr. Corman. He played Dax, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's biracial friend, in three episodes.

In January 2022, Logic announced his seventh studio album, Vinyl Days, was in production. On April 18, he announced a co-headlining tour. It was called the Vinyl Verse tour with fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa. The tour promoted the upcoming album, which was released on June 17. The tour began on July 27 in Irvine, CA. On April 22, he released two singles, "Tetris" and "Decades." He continued to release new singles weekly before the album's release.

On January 28, 2022, Logic was a guest star in two episodes of the animated series The Legend of Vox Machina.

On June 17, 2022, Logic released his seventh studio album, Vinyl Days. It received positive reviews. The album featured guest appearances from artists like Action Bronson, Wiz Khalifa, and RZA. A concert tour took place in July and August to promote the album. On several songs, Logic mentioned his next album would be College Park.

On "Sayonara," the album's final track, Logic reflected on his deal with Def Jam Recordings. He described his relationship with the label as having "ups and downs." An accompanying documentary for the album was released on July 13, 2022.

2022–present: New independent music and upcoming projects

On July 4, 2022, Logic announced he signed with BMG. This marked his return to an independent music career. He expressed happiness about being independent. He felt respected as an artist and in control of his career.

Since 2022, Logic has released instrumental beat tapes. He started with Peanuts on August 31. Other beat tapes include Loopin the 1st, Fantastic Beats and Where To Find Them, and Gold Chain.

On February 24, 2023, Logic's eighth studio album, College Park, was released. This was his first independent release since Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever. It was supported by four singles: "Highlife," "Wake Up" (feat. Lucy Rose), "Paradise II" (feat. Norah Jones), and "Lightsabers" (feat. C Dot Castro). Logic shared his renewed love for hip-hop and making music from the heart.

On July 5, 2023, Logic announced a partnership with Rubik's Cube. He also mentioned the possibility of an official cube under his name. During summer 2023, he released four non-album singles. These were "Juice II," "Figure It Out," "Check Please," and "Noell." In September, Logic released Inglorious Basterd. This was his first independent mixtape in ten years. It is available on his Bandcamp and YouTube channel. The mixtape features demo tapes and freestyles from 2011 to 2023.

On August 9, 2024, Logic released his ninth studio album, Ultra 85. This album was initially hinted at in his album Everybody. Ultra 85 received critical acclaim. Some critics called it Logic's best work. Ultra 85 was released alongside Logic's science fiction novel of the same name. The novel was released on September 17, 2024. The following month, Logic announced his tenth studio album, Phonkedelic. He shared that it would feature Memphis rap, phonk, and rage influences. In April 2025, Logic updated the album title to Sidequest. The debut single, "It's a Fee," was released on April 28, 2025. This was followed by singles "Everyones Dead Already," "Sold Out," "Catch Me If You Can," and "Goround."

On May 1, 2025, Logic released the trailer for Paradise Records. This is a comedy-drama film about a record store. Logic directed, wrote, and produced the film. It premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 6, 2025.

Personal life

Logic maintains a YouTube channel. On it, he posts videos about his favorite video games. He also shares insights into his personal life, behind-the-scenes content, and freestyle raps.

On October 22, 2015, Logic married singer Jessica Andrea. They announced their separation in March 2018. They filed for divorce the following month. They remained friends, stating that their split was not due to anger. Logic married Brittney Noell in September 2019. They welcomed their son, Bobby, in July 2020. Their second child, Leo, was born in July 2023.

Artistry

Logic often mentions Frank Sinatra as his main inspiration. Sinatra's influence is clear in Logic's style. Logic's fans are called the "RattPack." This name is a play on Sinatra's "Rat Pack." It also stands for "Real All the Time." The group originally included Logic's manager Christian Zarou, executive producer 6ix, and rappers C Dot Castro and Big Lenbo. Logic also calls his female fans "BobbySoxers." He sometimes refers to himself as "Young Sinatra."

As a child, Logic's mother showed him old black and white movies. This led to his love for Frank Sinatra. Logic says Sinatra helped him learn how to express himself. He describes Sinatra as someone who showed "peace, love, grace, positivity, honor, and valor."

Logic has shared that many types of entertainment have influenced him. This includes music from A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Outkast, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Drake, Eminem, and the Wu-Tang Clan. He also enjoys films by Quentin Tarantino. In an interview with XXL, Logic said he loves all kinds of hip-hop and music genres. He believes this appreciation helps him create his own unique sound.
