'Ernest Dion Wilson (born June 23, 1971), who is known by his stage name No I.D., is an American record producer, DJ, and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. He is sometimes called the "Godfather of Chicago hip hop" because of his big influence on the city's music scene.
No I.D. is famous for his early work with the rapper Common. He also became a mentor to other major artists like Kanye West, J. Cole, and Logic, helping them start their careers.
He has produced many hit songs that have reached the top of the music charts. These include "Run This Town" by Jay-Z, "Heartless" by Kanye West, and "Find Your Love" by Drake.
Besides producing, No I.D. has been the president of Kanye West's record label, GOOD Music. He also started his own label called ARTium Records.

Musical Journey
In 1996, Wilson released his own album called Accept Your Own and Be Yourself (The Black Album). He used the name No I.D., which is his first name, Dion, spelled backward. Early in his career, he worked as a co-producer with Jermaine Dupri. He helped create hit songs like "My Boo" by Usher and Alicia Keys.
His work with rapper Common on songs like "I Used to Love H.E.R." helped Common become famous. This success established No I.D. as a top producer in hip hop.

Helping Other Artists
No I.D. played a huge role in Kanye West's career. He invited a young Kanye to his recording sessions and taught him about making music. West has said that No I.D. was his mentor on songs like "Last Call" and "Big Brother".
In 2007, No I.D. produced two songs for Jay-Z's album American Gangster. This led to more work with Jay-Z, including producing the hit singles "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" and "Run This Town" from the album The Blueprint 3.
In 2011, he worked with Common again on the album The Dreamer/The Believer. That same year, he formed a group called ... 80s with Common and other musicians.
Becoming a Music Executive
After serving as president of G.O.O.D. Music, No I.D. took on a new role in 2011. He became the Executive Vice President of A&R (Artists and Repertoire) for Def Jam Recordings. This job involves finding and developing new artists.
He also started his own record label, ARTium Recordings, as part of Def Jam. Through ARTium, he has signed and worked with artists like Jhené Aiko and Vince Staples.
In 2017, No I.D. was the main producer for Jay-Z's album 4:44. The album was praised by critics for its personal lyrics. In 2018, he was named Executive Vice President of Capitol Music Group.

ARTium Recordings is a record label started by No I.D. in 2011. It was created as a partnership with Def Jam Recordings. No I.D. wanted to create a home for unique and talented artists.
