Mark Daniel Ronson (born September 4, 1975) is a British-American DJ, songwriter, and record producer. A record producer helps artists create their music in the studio. Ronson is famous for working with some of the biggest names in music.

He has won many awards, including nine Grammy Awards. He won Producer of the Year for his work on Amy Winehouse's album Back to Black. He also won Record of the Year for her song "Rehab" and his own hit song "Uptown Funk" with Bruno Mars.

Ronson also co-wrote the song "Shallow" for the movie A Star Is Born. The song won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy. More recently, he was the main producer for the soundtrack of the 2023 movie Barbie. The soundtrack and its songs, like "What Was I Made For?", won several Grammy Awards.

Early Life and Family

Mark Ronson was born in London, England. When he was eight, he moved to New York City with his family. His mother, Ann Dexter-Jones, is a writer and designer. His stepfather was Mick Jones, the guitarist for the famous rock band Foreigner. Being around musicians helped shape Ronson's love for music.

Ronson grew up with his twin sisters, Charlotte Ronson, a fashion designer, and Samantha Ronson, a DJ and singer. He attended high school in Manhattan and later went to New York University. In 2008, he became a U.S. citizen so he could vote in the election that year.

Music Career

Becoming a DJ and Producer

While in college, Ronson became a popular DJ in New York City's club scene. He was known for playing many different styles of music, from hip-hop to funk and rock. His skills as a DJ got him noticed, and he soon began producing music for other artists.

In 2003, he released his first album, Here Comes the Fuzz. It featured many famous guest artists like Sean Paul and Jack White. The album's single "Ooh Wee" was a hit in the United Kingdom. However, the album didn't sell well, and his record label dropped him. This led Ronson to start his own label, Allido Records, in 2004.

Ronson's career took off when he started producing for other artists. He worked with Lily Allen, Christina Aguilera, and most famously, Amy Winehouse. He produced most of her hit 2006 album Back to Black. His work on the album earned him a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year.

In 2007, Ronson released his second album, Version. This album was filled with cover songs, which are new recordings of songs by other artists. It included the hit singles "Stop Me" and "Valerie". Both songs were very popular in the U.K. The album's success won him a Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist.

International Fame with "Uptown Funk"

In 2014, Ronson released "Uptown Funk" featuring singer Bruno Mars. The song became a massive worldwide hit. It was number one in the United States for 14 weeks and in the U.K. for seven weeks. It is one of the best-selling songs of all time.

The song was the lead single from his fourth album, Uptown Special (2015). The album reached number one in the U.K. and was also a success in the U.S. "Uptown Funk" won two Grammy Awards, including the award for Record of the Year.

Recent Work and Collaborations

Ronson continues to work with many top artists. In 2018, he formed the group Silk City with fellow producer Diplo. Their song "Electricity" with Dua Lipa won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording.

That same year, he co-wrote "Shallow" with Lady Gaga for the movie A Star Is Born. The song was a huge success, winning an Academy Award and a Golden Globe.

In 2023, Ronson was the executive producer for the soundtrack of the movie Barbie. He co-wrote and produced several songs for the film, including "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa and "I'm Just Ken" sung by Ryan Gosling. The soundtrack was very popular and won multiple awards.

Personal Life

Ronson splits his time between London, Los Angeles, and New York. He is a fan of the Chelsea F.C. football team and the New York Knicks basketball team.

In 2011, Ronson married French actress Joséphine de La Baume. They divorced in 2018. In 2021, he married American actress Grace Gummer. They have two daughters.

Ronson also supports several charities. He is a patron of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which helps young people through music. He has also worked with charities that help children in need.
