Kenneth Edward Rashaad Bailey (born March 28, 1986 – died March 28, 2025) was an American rapper. He was better known by his stage name, Young Scooter. He was one of the first artists to join rapper Future's record label, Freebandz, in 2012. Later, in 2013, he also signed with Waka Flocka Flame's Brick Squad Monopoly. This label was part of Gucci Mane's 1017 Records.
Young Scooter became well-known for working with other rappers. His mixtape Street Lottery (2012) and its main song, "Colombia," also helped him gain fame. His song "Jet Lag" with Future and Juice Wrld in 2018 was his only song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

Young Scooter's Early Life and Music Journey
Young Scooter, whose real name was Kenneth Edward Rashaad Bailey, was born in Walterboro, South Carolina. When he was nine years old, his family moved to the Kirkwood area of Atlanta, Georgia. This area is sometimes called "Lil Mexico."
In 2008, Young Scooter decided to start a career in music. He had been friends with fellow Atlanta rapper Future since they were kids.
How Young Scooter Started in Music
Young Scooter's first mixtape, Plug Talkin, did not get much attention. A mixtape is like an album, but often released for free or online. With his second mixtape, Finessin and Flexin', he started to become known. He even worked with Future on this early project.
His big moment came in January 2013 when he released his mixtape Street Lottery. Music magazines like SPIN and XXL praised it. SPIN called it the "Rap release of the week." XXL included it on their list of "Best mixtapes of January." Eric Diep from XXL said Young Scooter was "one of the hottest street rappers coming out of Atlanta." He also mentioned that songs like "Colombia" showed his "undeniable talent." The mixtape was very popular online, getting over 100,000 downloads on DatPiff.
The Hit Song "Colombia"
The official music video for "Colombia" was shown on MTV on January 31. The song became a big hit in the southern United States, especially in Atlanta. Brandon Soderberg of SPIN magazine described the song as a mix of styles from other famous rappers.
Later that month, a new version of "Colombia" was released. This remix featured well-known rappers like Rick Ross, Birdman, and Gucci Mane. Even Lil Wayne covered the song for his mixtape Dedication 5. Young Scooter's success made many people in the music world excited about his future.
Young Scooter's Unique Music Style
Young Scooter was known for his special way of rapping. He often freestyled, meaning he made up his lyrics on the spot without writing them down first. This was similar to how Gucci Mane rapped.
He called his style "count music." Young Scooter said that famous rappers like Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Sean Combs influenced his music.
Young Scooter's Passing
Kenneth Edward Rashaad Bailey, also known as Young Scooter, passed away on his 39th birthday, March 28, 2025. The reason for his passing is still being looked into.
