Roy Randolph Roundtree, born on March 7, 1989, is a talented American football player who became a coach. He played as a wide receiver in college for the Michigan Wolverines. He was also a member of the Cincinnati Bengals for a short time.

Roy was known for his amazing catches and speed. He set a record at Michigan for the most receiving yards in a single game. He was also a top receiver in the Big Ten Conference. Today, he helps other players as the wide receivers coach for the Temple Owls.

Early Life and High School Football

Roy Roundtree started playing football when he was very young. He joined the Pee-Wee Dayton Flames in first grade. He played with a future Michigan teammate, Michael Shaw, on that team.

Roy played high school football in Ohio. He started at Belmont High School. Later, he moved to Trotwood-Madison High School. There, he played for coach Maurice Douglass, a former National Football League player. This move helped Roy improve his skills.

At Trotwood, Roy was a star player. He had 48 catches for 851 yards in his junior year. As a senior, he caught 52 passes for 868 yards. In total, he had 165 catches for 2,637 yards and 28 touchdowns in high school. He was named Ohio's offensive player of the year in his senior year. Roy also helped his team win their first playoff game since 1981.

Roy received scholarship offers from several colleges. He chose to play for the University of Michigan.

College Football Career

Roy Roundtree began his college career at Michigan in 2008. He played as a slot receiver. Even though he didn't play much at first, he became a starter later in his first season. He quickly became the team's top receiver. In one game against Michigan State, he caught a touchdown pass with only two seconds left. This sent the game into overtime!

In 2010, Roy was on the watchlist for the Biletnikoff Award. This award goes to the best wide receiver in the nation. He led Michigan in both catches and receiving yards that year. In a thrilling game against Illinois, Roy broke a Michigan record. He caught nine passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns. This was the most receiving yards ever in a single game for a Michigan player at that time. He was named Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for this amazing performance.

Roy continued to be a key player in 2011. In the first night game ever at Michigan Stadium, he caught the game-winning touchdown with two seconds left against Notre Dame. After the 2011 season, he had knee surgery.

In 2012, Roy wore the special "Michigan Football Legend" jersey number 21. This number was once worn by the famous player Desmond Howard. Roy had a great senior season. He made important catches in close games, including one that set up the game-winning field goal against Northwestern. He finished as the second-leading receiver for Michigan that year.

Professional Football and Coaching

After college, Roy Roundtree signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013. He later played for the Colorado Ice in the Indoor Football League in 2015.

After his playing career, Roy became a football coach. He started as a wide receivers coach at CSU Pueblo in 2015. He has coached at several colleges, including Limestone, Indiana State, and Grand Valley State. From 2018 to 2019, he was a graduate assistant coach back at his old school, Michigan.

In 2023, he coached at McNeese State. In 2024, he coached at Miami (OH). Since 2025, Roy Roundtree has been the wide receivers coach for the Temple Owls. He continues to share his knowledge and passion for football with young players.

Personal Life

Roy's father was one of his first football coaches. His mother's name is Sheila Roundtree. Some of his teammates call him "Tree" for short. He is also the nephew of former NFL player Jeff Graham.
