Royal is a small village located in Antelope County, Nebraska, in the United States. It's a quiet community with a unique history. In 2020, about 58 people lived there.

History of Royal Village

The village of Royal was started a long time ago, around 1890. It was first called "Savage." Later, its name was changed to Royal. This new name honored Royal Thayer, who helped set up the local post office.

One interesting part of Royal's past involves a place called "Zoo Nebraska." This zoo was located near the village. It became well-known when some chimpanzees got out of their enclosures. After this event, the zoo eventually closed down. A book about the zoo and what happened there was released in 2019.

Just six miles from Royal, you can find the Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park. This park is a really cool place to visit. It has very well-preserved skeletons of ancient animals. These fossils show what life was like many thousands of years ago. The park is a team effort between the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the University of Nebraska State Museum.
