History of Royal Center

Royal Center began in 1846. This was when the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad was built through the area. It is believed that the town was named after a place in New York.

The Pioneer Regional School Corporation includes five townships. Four of these are in Cass County: Boone, Harrison, Jefferson, and Noble. One township, Cass, is in White County. The school system covers an area of about 153 square miles (396 square kilometers). It includes the communities of Lucerne, Headlee, Lake Cicott, and Royal Center.

One school building in Lucerne was closed in 1966. This happened when the new Pioneer Junior-Senior High School building was finished. This high school, along with an elementary school, is located in Royal Center.
