Royon's Past: A Look at History
The name Royon likely comes from the thorny hedges that once covered the hills in this area. These hedges were made of créquiers, which are wild plum bushes. People called these hedges royons.
The village of Royon was first mentioned in a very old document in 893. This document was called Gallia Christiana. Later, in 1641, the village was referred to as 'Roion'. Finally, in 1804, its name officially became 'Royon'.
