Rubén Ariel Olivera da Rosa, born on May 4, 1983, in Montevideo, Uruguay, is a former professional footballer. He mostly played as a midfielder. After his playing career, he became a coach.
Rubén was known for being a very flexible player. He could play in many different midfield roles. Throughout his career, he played as a winger on both the left and right sides. He also played as a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder, and sometimes even as a forward.

Rubén Olivera's Football Journey
Starting Out in Uruguay
Rubén Olivera began his football career in 2001 with a team called Danubio in Uruguay. He played very well there. His good performances caught the eye of bigger clubs.
Playing in Italy and Spain
In 2002, Rubén was signed by the famous Italian club Juventus. He made his first appearance in Italy's top league, Serie A, on April 19, 2003. Juventus won that game against A.S. Roma 2-1. That season, Juventus won the Serie A title.
In 2004, he went on loan to Atlético Madrid in Spain for a short time. After returning to Juventus, he didn't play as much. He then had a loan spell with Sampdoria in 2007.
Moving Between Clubs
After his time at Sampdoria, Olivera went back to Juventus. However, he was soon loaned out again to Peñarol in Uruguay in 2008. Later in 2008, he signed a permanent contract with Genoa in Italy.
For the 2009-2010 season, he returned to Uruguay to play for Peñarol on loan again. On July 1, 2010, he came back to Italy and signed a three-year contract with Lecce.
Later Career in Italy and Ecuador
In 2012, Rubén Olivera joined Fiorentina, another Italian club, where he played for about a year and a half. In January 2014, he moved to Brescia, a team in Italy's second division, Serie B.
In January 2015, he joined Latina. He played a few games and scored a goal before an injury ended his season early in April 2015. During the 2015-2016 season, he scored 5 goals in 33 games for Latina.
In 2017, Olivera played for Liga de Quito in Ecuador. However, he returned to Latina in Italy in September 2017. At that time, Latina was playing in Serie D, a lower league. In February 2018, he also took on a role as a technical director for Latina.
He left Latina in the summer of 2018 and thought his playing career was over. But his former teammate, Daniele Corvia, convinced him to join Aprilia Racing on July 16, 2018.
In December 2019, Rubén Olivera joined Ostiamare. He moved back to Aprilia in June 2020. He officially announced his retirement from playing in May 2021 after being diagnosed with a heart condition.
Playing for Uruguay
Rubén Olivera played for the Uruguay national team 18 times between 2001 and 2005. He represented his country in the 2001 Copa América tournament. Uruguay reached the semi-finals in that competition, finishing in fourth place.
Becoming a Coach
After retiring as a player, Rubén Olivera started a new chapter as a coach. On June 3, 2022, Racing Aprilia announced that they had hired him as their new head coach. However, he left the role just two months later, on August 19, before the start of the 2022–23 Serie D season.
