Jane de Jong (born in 1987), known as Ruby Frost, is a singer and songwriter from Auckland, New Zealand. She started her music journey in 2009. That year, she won a big music contest called MTV 42Unheard. This win helped her get a recording deal with Universal Music New Zealand.
Since then, Ruby Frost has performed in many places. She has showcased her music in New York and Los Angeles. She has also toured with bands like Mt Eden and Cut Copy. Ruby Frost has opened shows for famous artists such as Diplo and Kimbra. In 2013, she was one of the four judges on The X Factor NZ. Her team member, Whenua Patuwai, came in second place in the competition.

Early Songs and Remixes
Ruby Frost released her first song, "Moonlight," in December 2011. It quickly became very popular on a radio station called bFM. The song reached number one and stayed in the top 10 for ten weeks! A music video was also made for "Moonlight."
Another one of Ruby Frost's songs, "O That I Had," was remixed by the group Mt Eden in 2010. This remixed version became a huge hit online. It was viewed over one million times on YouTube.
Winning Songwriting Awards
Ruby Frost is also a talented songwriter. In 2010, she won a major award in the Pop category of the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She won this prize for her song called "Hazy."
She also placed third in the Pop/Top 40 category of the International Songwriting Competition in 2011, again for "Hazy." In 2012, her song "Water to Ice" was chosen as one of the top 20 songs for the NZ APRA Silver Scrolls, which is a big songwriting award in New Zealand.

If you bought a physical copy of the album, it came with special short stories written by Ruby herself! Music critics liked the album a lot.
Popular Singles
In April 2012, Ruby released the song "Water to Ice" in New Zealand. This song was played a lot on popular radio stations like The Edge and ZM. It reached number 3 on the official New Zealand Music Chart for NZ Singles. The music video for "Water to Ice" was also very popular. It was even featured on the front page of Vimeo, a video-sharing website.
Her next song, "Young," came out in September 2012. A music video was also made for this song. A group called Home Brew Crew made a remix of "Young." The song stayed on The Edge's Fat 40 chart for two months. This led to a national house party tour sponsored by the radio station and other companies.
Ruby Frost also sang on the song "Feel Inside" by Flight of the Conchords. This song was released to help raise money for a children's charity called Cure Kids. In 2013, Ruby helped write "The Wire," a song for the artist David Dallas. She also sang on another one of his songs called "The Gate." In 2014, she released a new song called "Comeback Queen." As of 2018, Ruby Frost was still working on her second album.
