After his studies in Zurich, Rudolf continued to learn the violin. He took private lessons with Carl Flesch in Paris. He also studied with Wolfgang Schneiderhan in Vienna. These lessons helped him become an even better violinist.

Founding the Lucerne Festival Strings

In 1956, Rudolf Baumgartner teamed up with Wolfgang Schneiderhan. Together, they created the Lucerne Festival Strings. This was a new chamber orchestra. A chamber orchestra is a smaller group of musicians. They play classical music together. This group became very well-known.

Teaching and Leading Music Festivals

In the 1950s, Rudolf Baumgartner recorded music by J.S. Bach. He played violin with a harpsichord player named Isolde Ahlgrimm.

In 1954, Rudolf started teaching violin. He became a professor at the Lucerne Conservatory. This was a big music school in Lucerne. By 1960, he became the director of the school. This meant he was in charge of the whole music school.
