Rudratej Singh (born 1973 – died April 20, 2020) was an important Indian business leader. He was the president and CEO of BMW India, which is a big car company. Before that, he was the global president of Royal Enfield Motors, a famous motorcycle company. He also worked as a vice president for Unilever in Singapore.
Early Life and School
Rudratej Singh grew up in New Delhi, India. He went to Air Force Bal Bharati School and finished there in 1990. After school, he studied commerce at Delhi University, graduating in 1993. He then earned a special business degree (an MBA) in marketing and finance from IMT Ghaziabad. Later, in 2014, he attended a special management program at Harvard Business School in the United States.
His Business Journey
Rudratej Singh started his career in 1996 at a company called Dabur India Limited. He then joined Hindustan Unilever in 1998, where he worked in sales. By 2000, he became a senior brand manager and helped create the well-known Brooke Bond tea brand. He held many important jobs at Unilever companies around the world.
In 2015, Singh joined Eicher Motors Limited (EML) as the president of their motorcycle business, Royal Enfield. Royal Enfield is famous for its classic motorcycles. In 2017, he became the global president of Royal Enfield. During his four years there, he helped Royal Enfield become one of the most successful motorcycle companies. He helped increase the company's sales in India a lot, from 3.3% in 2014 to 6.9% in 2018.
In 2019, Rudratej Singh left Royal Enfield and became the president and CEO of BMW India. He started this new role in August 2019.
His Passing
Rudratej Singh passed away on April 20, 2020, when he was 46 years old. He died because of a heart attack.
Beyond Work
Rudratej Singh was also a talented amateur golfer. He played golf for India and won 18 golf titles around the world. He was also a board member of the Women's Golf Association of India (WGAI). He helped run a charity that supported girls who were not as lucky. He often gave speeches at business events and talked about brands all over the world.
