Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) is a large Indian company. It makes and sells many everyday products. These are things like foods, drinks, cleaning supplies, and personal care items. HUL's main office is in Mumbai, India. It is part of a bigger company called Unilever, which is based in the UK and the Netherlands.

The company started in India in 1931 as Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Co. Over the years, it changed its name a few times. In 1956, it became Hindustan Lever Limited. Then, in June 2007, it was renamed Hindustan Unilever Limited.

HUL has faced some challenges. For example, there were concerns about waste disposal in Kodaikanal. This waste contained mercury and caused pollution in the area. HUL worked to address these environmental issues.

In December 2018, HUL announced a big deal. It bought the consumer business of GlaxoSmithKline India. This deal was worth about US$3.8 billion. The merger was completed in April 2020. This added many new health and wellness products to HUL's range.

Before this, HUL's headquarters were in a building called Lever House. It was located in Backbay Reclamation, Mumbai. The company stayed there for over 46 years.

HUL also has important research facilities. The Hindustan Unilever Research Centre (HURC) was first set up in 1966 in Mumbai. Later, another research center, Unilever Research India, opened in Bangalore in 1997. In 2006, all of HUL's research work was brought together at one big site in Bangalore.
