Rudy Reyes, born on February 27, 1977, is an American teacher, actor, and chef. He is also known for being an archaeologist and an activist for ... rights. Many people recognize him from the TV show MasterChef, where he was a contestant on the fourth season.

Rudy Reyes: A Fire Hero
Rudy Reyes lived in San Diego County, California, when the Cedar Fire happened in 2003. This was a very large wildfire. During the fire, Rudy helped other people get to safety first. After helping others, he became trapped by the fire himself.
To protect himself, Rudy soaked himself in a shower. Then, he ran over a mile through the burning area. He suffered burns on about 70 percent of his body. He also lost one ear and part of a finger.

Four years after the Cedar Fire, another big wildfire, the Witch Creek wildfire, hit San Diego County in 2007. After this, Rudy Reyes became concerned about how public money was being used. Rudy ran for a position on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors against Dianne Jacob in 2008. He did not win, but he received more than 20,000 votes. This was about 22 percent of all the votes.
