Rufino is a city located in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. About 18,980 people lived there in 2010.
The city is in the southwest part of the province. It is about 260 kilometers (160 miles) from Greater Rosario, a large city area. It is also 416 kilometers (258 miles) from Santa Fe, the capital city of the province.
Rufino is important because it is near the borders of two other provinces: Córdoba to the west and Buenos Aires to the south. It is also where two major roads, National Route 33 and National Route 7, meet.
History of Rufino
The town of Rufino was started by a person named Gerónimo Segundo Rufino. This happened in 1886. At that time, a new railway line opened. This line connected Diego de Alvear, Santa Fe to Villa Mercedes, San Luis.
The plans for the new town were officially approved. This approval came from the government of Santa Fe on March 29, 1889. This date is now known as the official founding day of Rufino.
