Rugby sevens is a fast-paced team sport, a bit like regular rugby but with fewer players. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, exciting rugby sevens tournaments were held. These games took place from July 24 to July 30 at the famous Stade de France.
Twenty-four teams competed in total, with twelve men's teams and twelve women's teams. For the first time ever, some rugby sevens matches started even before the official Olympic opening ceremony! The men's games began on July 24, with their preliminary and quarterfinal rounds. The competition then paused for the opening ceremony on July 26. The men's medal winners were decided the very next day. The women's tournament followed, running from July 28 to July 30, ending with their exciting gold and bronze medal matches.

How Teams Qualified
To play in the Olympics, teams had to qualify! The International Olympic Committee and World Rugby (the main rugby organization) set up the rules for how teams could earn their spots.
France, as the host country, automatically got a spot for both their men's and women's teams. Other teams had to work hard to qualify through different ways:
- The top four teams from the 2022–23 World Rugby Sevens Series earned a place. This series is like a world tour for rugby sevens teams.
- Teams also qualified by winning their regional championships. There are six regions around the world: Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, North America, and South America.
- The very last spot for each tournament (men's and women's) was given to the winner of a special final qualification tournament, held just a month before the Olympics.
