She won a bronze medal in long jump at the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia. Her impressive jump was 6.44 metres.

Ruky Abdulai's Athletic Journey

Ruky grew up in Accra, Ghana. She later moved to Canada and attended Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. She received a scholarship for track and field. In early 2008, Ruky became a Canadian citizen. This allowed her to compete for Canada in international events.

Setting Records in Long Jump

Ruky quickly made a name for herself in long jump. She set a national record of 6.72 metres in California in 2008. She also won many long jump titles at college championships. Ruky aimed to qualify for the Olympics. She almost reached the Olympic standard of 6.70 metres. She jumped 6.49 metres at a competition in Vancouver. Later, she won her first national long jump title in Windsor, Ontario. This victory gave her another chance to go to the Olympics.

Competing at the Olympics

Ruky Abdulai competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She took part in the women's long jump event. Her teammate, Tabia Charles, also competed. Ruky jumped 6.41 metres in the qualifying rounds. She finished twenty-sixth overall. Later, her ranking improved by one spot.

Universiade Medal Win

In 2009, Ruky went to the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia. This is a big sports event for university athletes. She performed very well in the long jump. Ruky won the bronze medal with a jump of 6.44 metres. This was a proud moment for her and for Canada.

Moving to Heptathlon

After her success in long jump, Ruky decided to try a new challenge. In 2010, she started competing in heptathlon. Heptathlon is a tough event with seven different track and field challenges. She surprised everyone by winning her first international heptathlon competition in California. She scored 6,086 points. The next year, she continued to improve. She scored 6,150 points at the national trials.

World Championships Performance

Ruky made her official debut in heptathlon at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea. Her teammate, Jessica Zelinka, also competed. Ruky achieved her best scores in several events there. She ran the 100-metre hurdles in 13.60 seconds. She threw the shot put 11.72 metres. She ran the 800 metres in 2 minutes and 15.29 seconds. She also jumped 1.80 metres in the high jump. Overall, she scored an amazing 6,212 points. This placed her thirteenth in the world.
