Russell Hastings Millward (born April 5, 1877 – died October 1958) was an amazing person. He was an inventor, a writer, a photographer, and a brave explorer. He once said that he held a world record for walking in parts of Africa, South America, Central America, and Mexico that were not yet explored or mapped.

Russell Hastings Millward was born on April 5, 1877. His parents were Francis Millward and Margaret Ann Jones. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Russell went to college at the University of Illinois College of Law. He also studied at Columbia University.

In 1912, Millward shared an interesting fact. He said that the jungles of Guatemala were the richest in the world. He noted they had lots of valuable hardwoods, rubber, and chicle. Chicle is a natural gum used to make chewing gum.

In 1913, a picture taken by Millward was used in a confusing way. A newspaper used his image of children playing in the ocean. The picture was taken in British Honduras. The newspaper made it seem like something bad was happening.

Russell Millward married Edna Pearl Boyden. They were married on August 27, 1914. Edna was from Boston.

In 1934, a group of explorers had an idea. They wanted to create a "geographic theater" in Manhattan. This theater would show movies, slides, and lectures. It would also feature music and dancing from different cultures. Millward was chosen to be the person in charge of the programs.

Russell Hastings Millward passed away in October 1958. He died in Pembroke, Massachusetts.
