Russell Investments Center is a tall building, called a skyscraper, in Seattle, Washington, United States. It has 42 floors. It is one of the tallest buildings in Seattle, standing about 182 meters (597 feet) high. When it was finished, it was the biggest new skyscraper in downtown Seattle in almost 15 years.
Building History
This skyscraper was first called WaMu Center. It was built to be the main office for a company named Washington Mutual (WaMu). WaMu wanted to bring many of its workers in Seattle into one building. This would help them work better together.
The main building work finished in early 2006. Washington Mutual workers started moving into the tower in March of that year. Later, in September 2008, Washington Mutual had problems. Its parts and accounts were sold to another company, JPMorgan Chase.
On June 1, 2009, the building's name changed to Chase Center. A few months later, on September 9, 2009, a company called Northwestern Mutual bought the building. Russell Investments, which is part of Northwestern Mutual, moved its main office into the building. They came from Tacoma, Washington. When they moved in, the building was renamed the Russell Investments Center.
Design and Features
The company that designed the tower was NBBJ. They also designed other important buildings in downtown Seattle. Sellen Construction was the main company that built the skyscraper.
The Russell Investments Center is located at 1301 Second Avenue. It is across the street from another building that used to be called Washington Mutual Tower. The building also includes the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). The museum takes up the first four floors on the west side of the building. It also connects to the museum's older building nearby.
The building has a special outdoor area on the 17th floor. This private rooftop patio is about 2,000 square meters (20,000 square feet). It has walking paths for the people who work in the tower.
