Russell Thomas has sung many important roles in operas. At the Metropolitan Opera, he played Tito in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito. He also sang the part of Rodolfo in Puccini's La Boheme. These are both very famous operas.

At the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, he performed as Gabriele Adorno. This was in Verdi's opera Simon Boccanegra. In 2021, he played Canio in a video of Pagliacci.
