The rusty-headed spinetail (Synallaxis fuscorufa) is a small bird with a special rusty-colored head. It belongs to a bird family called Furnariidae. These birds are sometimes called "ovenbirds" because some of them build nests that look like ovens.
This unique bird lives only in one specific place. It is endemic to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains in Colombia. This means you can only find it living naturally in that mountain range.
Where the Rusty-Headed Spinetail Lives
The rusty-headed spinetail makes its home in certain types of forests. Its natural habitats are wet mountain forests. These are known as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It also lives in areas where forests used to be, but are now heavily changed.
Why This Bird Needs Our Help
Sadly, the rusty-headed spinetail is facing a big problem. It is threatened by habitat loss. This means that the places where it lives are disappearing. People are cutting down trees or changing the land for other uses. When their homes are destroyed, these birds have fewer places to live and find food. This makes it harder for them to survive and raise their young.
