Ryōgoku Bridge facts for kids

Ryōgoku Bridge and the Great Riverbank (August 1856) - Brooklyn Museum
The Ryōgoku Bridge (which means "two provinces" in Japanese) is a famous bridge in Tokyo, Japan. It was built way back in 1659. This bridge crosses the Sumida River, which is a major river in Tokyo. It's located just a little bit upstream from where the Sumida River meets the Kanda River.
The bridge got its name because it connected two important areas. It linked Edo (which is what Tokyo was called a long time ago, located in Musashi Province) with Shimōsa Province. The neighborhood on the east side of the bridge is called Ryōgoku, and it got its name from the bridge itself.
You might have even seen this bridge in the 2015 anime movie called "Miss Hokusai"!
